El apartamento Riddoch de The National Trust Scotland

Perfect location, charming and historic building! Positive: It was incredibly quaint - lots of historic charm! Just was so unique and special. You do need to be prepared for the steps, they are likely not for everyone but they were what made this so special. The apartment was well equipped. It is right in the middle of everything and very convenient to the train station, castle and palace. Loved it! Negative: Nothing too significant. The batteries in the thermostat were dead when we arrived. Luckily we had some we could put in and use. The pull for the blinds in the bedroom needed to be fixed - again, minor. And the bar outside was noisy but we still were able to sleep.

Dirty place, Take your money elsewhere! Positive: Location is the only things going for this property. It’s right off of Lawnmarket in downtown Edinburgh. Negative: It’s disgusting. It might look nice in photos but the shower was dirty and had mold growing on the bottles. Place didn’t look like it’s been thoroughly cleaned. Dirty tile, dirty carpets, Mold, cracks, water damage visible along the baseboard, and dust all over the radiators and corners. Broken chains on all the window shades. The door to the kitchen slammed shut and left me with a bruise. It’s just not worth it to stay in a place like this.

Geweldig, zonder enige vorm van overdrijven, de ligging het appartement werkelijk perfect Positive: De plek is geweldig, midden in het centrum. Het comfort van het appartement is ook perfect. Negative: Enigste minpuntje maar dan ook de enigste qua appartement is de breedte van het bed. En vanuit Booking.com de beschrijving hoe er te komen. Een simpele aanwijzing als door het steegje links om re hoek is een houten deur met 4 stenen treden ervoor… er is nl geen huisnummer op de deur of op de muur en er zijn veel deuren aan de rechterkant dus een vergissing is zo gemaakt

The room and window are relatively small, but they are comfortable and sufficient for a short stay. Overall, the apartment meets the basic needs of travellers who are mainly looking for a convenient place to stay while exploring the city. Negative: The main challenge is the access to the apartment. It is located on the 4th floor and requires carrying luggage up a spiral staircase. The owner did mention the spiral staircase in the description, but there were no pictures showing how narrow and challenging it actually is. For guests travelling with only a backpack, this may not be a concern. However, if you are travelling with larger luggage, it can be quite difficult. In my case, carrying two check-in bags and two carry-on bags up the staircase was extremely challenging it felt like an unexpected workout session. I would strongly suggest the owner add clear pictures of the staircase in the listing, similar to the room photos. This would help future guests understand the access situation and plan accordingly, especially those travelling with heavy luggage or mobility concerns. Overall, the apartment has a fantastic location and provides a comfortable stay, but the staircase access should be made much clearer with the staircase image in the listing.
